On Monday 4th October, SSA Upton Lane finally re-opened its doors to host families of students in Years 5 and 6.

Our first ‘in-person’ open evening since lockdown, saw just over 600 visitors enter the Upton Lane site for a jam-packed evening filled with speeches, departmental showcases and activities, educational success stories as well as delicious food courtesy of Innovate Catering.

Upon entry, visitors were greeted by our newly appointed Year 11 prefects, who escorted groups around the school premises and to the main school hall, where families were then introduced to Headteacher, Mr Hewitt.

Mr Hewitt’s Open Evening presentation was shortly followed by not one but three fantastic speeches from two Year 7 students and the Head Boy of Grosvenor Road.

The speeches had our guests laughing and smiling from ear to ear as they listened to each student’s first-hand testimonial as to why Stratford School Academy should be their first choice of secondary school.

The excitement did not stop there as Mr Hewitt then premiered our new school video prospectus; where visitors responded with an over-whelming round of applause for those students who had made their starring debut.

Visitors were equally impressed with each of our departments who had prepared a fantastic range of educational activities for the Year 5 & 6 students to get stuck into, including (but not limited to): music production, computer coding and gaming, theatrical performances, shocking science experiments, silly slime making and maths quizzes. The History department even went as far as to invite students to pose for the ‘gram’ in their amazing range of historical costumes.

Throughout the evening, visitors were also prompted to complete their ‘Open Evening Passports’ by collecting stamps from each of our departments. The passport not only ensured that our families didn’t miss a beat, but also enabled them to enter into a prize draw which will see one lucky family win a complete SSA school uniform, courtesy of Lucilla Schoolwear Ltd.

The prize draw will be locked away safe and securely until successful admissions to SSA are communicated next year. The winning family will be drawn and contacted directly by the Media and Communications Officer when their child is due to start at SSA.

Before leaving the event, we asked families to complete our Open Evening Feedback Survey. We have absolutely loved reading their responses to the evening today and look forward to welcoming them all back to SSA very soon.

History was very engaging, excellent. It was all so well done, can't complain about anything, it was fantastic. The food was amazing as was the extra effort made by the staff and technicians. No other school so far has presented so holistically

Lovely school, amazing makeover.

Fascinating to see the different year work on the subjects I saw.

The event was well organised. I'm really impressed with the passport pamphlet. it was very inventive and gave me an opportunity to visit the different departments.

Very impressive, lots of subjects. My son is very excited.

With thanks to,
