Education Beyond the Classroom
At SSA it is our mission to give students access to the knowledge, qualifications, and wider experiences they need to develop their potential and to participate in and make a positive contribution to society.
We strive for all students to have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences, including those that are outside what is taught in the classroom, for example during lunch, after school and school holidays. It is our intent that, by providing these opportunities, students will develop as:
-
Respectful and responsible members of society
-
Happy and successful young people who seek excellence for themselves and others.
-
Mentally, physically, and socially healthy members of society.

Brilliant Club
The Brilliant Club is a charity that supports students to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to progress to highly competitive universities. Through programmes like Scholars Programme, pupils work with PhD tutors to explore challenging academic topics beyond the school curriculum. They learn how to think critically, conduct independent research and write university-style assignments. At our school, participation in The Brilliant Club inspires ambition and raises aspirations, particularly for those from underrepresented backgrounds. Students gain valuable insight into higher education and are empowered to see themselves as future scholars, opening doors to exciting academic and career opportunities
Students can apply to join Brilliant Club at the start of Year 8 by talking to their History teacher. Students are then selected to complete their Brilliant Club studies during the Spring Term of Year 8 with graduation in the Summer. Past studies have included the treatment of people in the British Empire, Colonialism in literature, and Engineering.
