#SSAHistory 📜 ✨ #Year9 students have been studying the Holocaust and the persecution of minorities by the Nazis in their History lessons. To mark #HolocaustMemorialDay this year, the History department in collaboration with the Holocaust Educational Trust (@holocaustuk) selected 40 students to participate in a live webcast where they met Holocaust survivor Eva Clark BEM and listened to her powerful story. ‘I was born in Mauthausen concentration camp on 29th April 1945. My mother started giving birth to me on a coal wagon.’ ‘On 28th April 1945 the Nazis had run out of gas in the gas chamber in Mauthausen. If we arrived on the 26th or 27th, I wouldn’t be here today.’ - Eva Clarke BEM Students can find more information on Eva Clark BEM by visiting 👉 www.het.org.uk/survivors-eva-clarke #EvaLive #NeverForget #holocaustsurvivor #holocaustmemorialday #history #education #secondaryschool #forestgate #newham

🚨 Virtual Coffee Morning: Supporting your child with reading Our second coffee morning will take place on Zoom tomorrow. We encourage all our parents/carers to attend if they are able to. The session emphasizes the importance of reading for pleasure and highlights key ways in which parents can support their child's reading development throughout their secondary education and beyond. ✨‘Nothing is more important in education than ensuring that every child can read well. Pupils who can read are overwhelmingly more likely to succeed at school, achieve good qualifications, and subsequently enjoy a fulfilling and rewarding career. Those who cannot will find themselves at constant disadvantage'. - Department for Education✨ ℹ️Details 🦉Virtual Coffee Morning: Supporting your child with reading 🗓Tuesday 25th January ⏰9.05am-9.25am 💻📱 - Join via Zoom link (Link has been sent to all Parents via ParentMail email) #coffeemorning #morningmotivation #parentcoffeemorning #parentpartnerships #KS3 #KS4 #reading #readingforpleasure

🚨Important Message from DfE From today, in schools where students in year 7 and above are educated, face coverings no-longer need to be worn in classrooms. Students must continue to wear face coverings in all other indoor communal areas such as corridors, the assembly hall, the cafeteria and the libraries. ✨What does this mean for you? ✨ ▪️ You must wear a mask when you enter the building. ▪️ You can remove your mask once you are seated in your lesson. ▪️ You can choose to continue to wear your mask if you wish. ▪️ You must put your mask back on before leaving a classroom, even if you are on your way outside. ▪️ You can remove your mask when eating. If you believe you are exempt from wearing a mask (as per the list on the Department for Education website) you will need to speak to your Head of House which will be followed by a parental meeting. #KeepSSASafe 🦉✨@educationgovuk

#SSAYear11 🧠 ✨ MANTRA: EAT, SLEEP, REVISE, REPEAT It was great to see lots of Year 11 students join us for a Revision Techniques Workshop yesterday! The workshop aimed to support students in developing active revision techniques including: testing, quizzing, completing past papers and retrieval practice. Cognitive research states that all revision must be active, and that deep thinking helps students remember information. ✨”MEMORY IS THE RESIDUE OF THOUGHT” - DANIEL T. WILLINGHAM✨ Students should therefore not rely on passive revision methods such as watching revision clips, reading and highlighting materials. 🦉Thankyou to Mr Jarvis, Assistant Headteacher & the SSA English department! Missed the event? You can find the workshop resources via ‘NEWS’ on our school website. #Year11 #GCSE #GCSEs #Revision #RevisionTechniques #GCSEStudy #Studywithme #studygram #studymotivation #studymantra #secondaryschool #education #forestgate #newham

#SSAGeography 🌎✨ This week has been particularly exciting for our Year 9 students as they have begun thinking about their GCSE options. ✨ WHY STUDY GEOGRAPHY ✨ Geography is the study of how the human and physical interact with each other to create exciting, necessary and something dangerous phenomena! It involves using lots of different skills, from extended writing to critical thinking and problem solving. Due to this, geography is known as a facilitating subject as employers and universities favour geography students to the academic and scholarly skills needed to succeed at the subject. 🦉In the sample lesson, students practiced their decision-making skills and had difficult conversations on what needs to be prioritised during a humanitarian crisis, such as the forced migration in Syria. They had to choose from a selection of items and justify their decision to their peers, which promotes critical thinking and teamwork needed to succeed at Geography GCSE.🦉 #geography #geographer #humanitarian #migration #KS4 #geographylesson #geographygcse #gcse #secondaryschool #education #forestgate #newham
