Debate Mate Cup 2025: Year 7 Teams Excel at University of Greenwich

On Thursday, 1st May 2025, Stratford School Academy's Year 7 students showcased their exceptional debating skills at the Debate Mate Cup Finals, held at the University of Greenwich. Competing against 17 other London-based schools, our two teams—Team A and Team B—stood out as the youngest participants, yet delivered performances that belied their age.
Throughout the day, our students engaged in thought-provoking debates on motions such as:

“This House believes the UK should be entirely self-sufficient in energy production”

“This House believes that professional athletes should be paid the same as public sector workers”
Despite facing older and more experienced debaters, our Year 7 teams showcased exceptional maturity, confidence, and eloquence. Their well-structured arguments and poised delivery earned them 4th place overall—a testament to their dedication and potential.
We are immensely proud of our Year 7 debaters for their outstanding achievement and look forward to supporting their continued growth in future competitions.
