BBC Bitesize Careers Tour at Stratford School Academy

Stratford School Academy was delighted to welcome the BBC Bitesize Careers Tour, giving all of our Key Stage 3 students the opportunity to explore careers in the media and creative industries.

The workshop and panel discussion were led by Fee Mak, presenter on BBC Radio 1Xtra. Students heard from an inspiring panel of women working across the BBC and the wider creative sector: a technician for BBC Opera, a production manager and a music talent manager.

The panellists spoke candidly about the importance of self-advocacy in the workplace and building confidence as women in their industries. Students learned about the many routes into the BBC and the creative industries, including apprenticeships and technician roles. They were also introduced to a BBC Bitesize quiz that helps them discover which technician role might suit them and shown how BBC Bitesize can support their wider career learning.

In recognition of Black History Month, the panel also highlighted local opportunities to engage with culture and the arts, including V&A East here in our community.

We were thrilled to offer this experience to our Year 7, 8 and 9 students. For our Year 7s in particular, it provided an exciting and memorable launch to their careers education journey at SSA.

We extend our sincere thanks to BBC Bitesize, Fee Mak and all of the panellists for giving their time and sharing their experiences with our students.
